BALENCIAGA: SHAPING FASHION AT THE V&A
NOW – 18th FEBRUARY

Described by Vogue as “a euphoric celebration of the master of them all”, Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion opened at the V&A last spring, and is now in its final few weeks.

Curated by Cassie Davies-Strodder, the exhibition took 18 months to prepare, including the acquisition of many pieces from private collectors from all over the world.  During his lifetime, Cristóbal Balenciaga rarely gave interviews to the press, and never wrote a biography, resulting in an exhibition providing extraordinary insight into Balenciaga’s very private world.  Put your best fashion foot forward, and come and join us in the illustrious surrounds of The Berkeley hotel for dinner at Marcus on a Friday evening after the exhibition’s weekly late opening (last entry at 8:15pm).

ROOFTOP WINTER CINEMA AT THE BERKELEY
NOW – 10TH FEBRUARY

Several stories above our restaurant, you will discover a winter wonderland on the roof of The Berkeley, transformed into a magical rooftop cinema. Screenings this season include When Harry Met Sally and Breakfast At Tiffany’s, shown on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays only.  Moncler fur wraps, fleecy rugs, hot water bottles and heated lamps will keep you snug, and the ticket price also includes mulled wine, hot chocolate, and mini shepherd’s pies.  With screenings at 5:15pm and 7:30pm, both leave just enough time to squeeze in a quick pre or post film meal down at Marcus, to complete the experience.

BURNS WHISKY MASTERCLASS IN THE CRYPT AT FORTNUM & MASON
WEDNESDAY 24TH JANUARY

In celebration of the life and poetry of Robert Burns, Fortnum & Mason is bringing the Burns Night celebrations forward by one day, and offering a masterclass hosted by Scotch Whisky during which guests will have the opportunity to sample some of Scotland’s most exceptional whiskies, from distilleries including Macallan, Highland Park, Laphroaig, Bowmore & Auchentoshan.  The 6:30pm masterclass has already sold out so be sure to bag your place at the 7:30pm masterclass today.  Finishing at 8:15pm, it then gives you time to nip through Green Park to soak up all of the whisky with a late dinner at Marcus.

LUMIERE LONDON
18th – 21st January

Bigger, brighter and bolder, the Lumiere London light festival returns for a spectacular second edition. More than 40 UK and international artists reimagine London’s iconic architecture and streets, transforming the city into a dazzling nocturnal art exhibition. Free to visit and taking place north and south of the river Thames, the UK’s largest light festival extends its reach across the capital.

Down the road in Mayfair, there will be nine installations.  The nearest to the restaurant will be Simon Corder’s Bough 3 (pictured).  Located on South Audley Street, Corder’s vivid tubes of fluorescent light grow up the facade of a Mayfair building, climbing like ivy up the wall, over and around the ornate decorations in the brickwork.  Join us for lunch, before working off those 5 courses with a stroll down to Mayfair afterwards (15 min walk).

 

THE METROPOLITAN OPERA’S ‘TOSCA’ LIVE IN HD AT THE CURZON, MAYFAIR
SATURDAY 27TH JANUARY

Curzon Cinemas is delighted to be collaborating with the Metropolitan Opera House in New York in the HD screening of several of its key performances in 2018. On Saturday 27th January, at 5:55pm, Puccini’s Tosca will be showing at the Curzon Mayfair.

Sir David McVicar’s “smashing new production” is “a grand triumph” (Huffington Post), featuring an exciting cast led by soprano Sonya Yoncheva in the title role of the fiery diva and Vittorio Grigolo as her passionate lover, Cavaradossi.  A five minute taxi ride from the restaurant, we still have limited availability to enjoy our 8 course Taste of Winter menu, following this stirring performance.
