Season 14 of the series will see 32 professional chefs compete in a number of challenges, all in the quest to become the 2021 MasterChef champion. It all starts with the heats, where each chef will have to do a skills test (set by Marcus or fellow chef judge, Monica Galetti) and a two-course signature menu. This year, skills tests include bangers and mash and a crème pâtissière Swiss roll.
At the end of each week, the top chefs from the heats will create a dish around a nominated ingredient and then cook for some of the country’s top restaurant critics. In the semi-finals, each chef will need to cook a dish that evokes or represents a certain memory and then take on an invention test. This stage also includes a pop-up challenge and a final dish that will separate the semi-finalists from the final six.
In the finals, expect the classic Chef’s Table challenge with the likes of Matt Abe, Daniel Clifford and Aktar Islam, before the final 4 take on a ‘classic reimagined’ dish. The final three will be challenged by Jean-Philippe Blondet, who will task them with cooking dishes from a limited larder. The penultimate challenge will see the chefs spend a service in Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester, a three-Michelin-star restaurant in London.
The 2021 MasterChef champion will be chosen based on the final cook, with contestants preparing the best three-course meal of their lives!
